Better to Be Kind

Believe it or not, there’s something better than being nice. God tells us it’s better to be kind. If you’re nice, you’re polite, and that’s good. But being kind is being caring and thoughtful. Now, think about how you might want to treat someone who has been mean to you. Is it easy to “act” nice and polite to her even when your inside feelings are different? You can probably do that. But what about showing real care and true thoughtfulness to her? That’s nearly impossible!

The Bible says you are to show kindness to everyone: “Love is patient, love is kind” (1 Corinthians 13:4). Being kind takes lots of prayer and effort. It comes from your heart, and it’s not just words—it’s actions that make a difference. Showing kindness to someone can help point them to Jesus.

Lord, the world tells me to be nice, but I’d rather be like You and be kind. Open my heart. Help me understand other people and show them Your kind of love and compassion. Amen.
